Gymnema is is also known as gurmar, the destroyer of sugar. It is hypothesized that its work begins by blocking sugar receptors on the tongue. The action lasts about two hours and helps to reduce sugar cravings. Recent research suggests that it aids regeneration of the pancreas in a manner that allows the pancreas to produce more insulin.
